Root canal treatment; It is the last treatment method before a severely decayed tooth is lost by extraction.
Our teeth are from outside to inside; It consists of three different layers: enamel, dentin and pulp. If the caries tissue formed by microorganisms caused by insufficient oral hygiene is limited to the enamel and the layer under it, the dentin; It can be treated without the need for root canal treatment with “capable fillings”, which we call deeper fillings and complete with fillers or extra materials. However, as a result of not treating the caries tissue for a long time, microorganisms progress to the pulp, which is the layer under the dentin.
The pulp, which is a chamber in the middle of the tooth; It is the vascular-nerve package that nourishes the tooth and preserves its vitality. As a result of the progression of microorganisms to the pulp chamber together with the carious tissue, the vascular-nerve package begins to be damaged and manifests itself with tooth sensitivity in the early period. If the tooth is not intervened at this stage, as a result of the further progression of caries and the increase of microorganisms in the pulp chamber, night pain in the tooth, inflammation in the pulp and an abscess occur in the tooth in more advanced stages, when the infection descends to the root canals and root tip. And as a result of all this, untreated teeth must be extracted.
As we mentioned above, root canal treatment; It is the last treatment method before a severely decayed tooth is lost by extraction. With this method, caries in the tooth, damaged tissues in the pulp chamber and root canals are completely cleaned with appropriate and advanced technology instruments and removed from the tooth, and the clean space opened in the root canals is filled with biocompatible materials and tightly closed.
Although the cleaning process of the root canals is mostly completed in one session, the filling process; Depending on the condition of the tooth and the inflammation in the tooth, it may take one or several sessions.
Finally, the upper composite filling of the tooth with root canals is completed, and the process is completed.
In some cases; Root canal treatment may be required without tooth decay and infection. For such cases, we recommend that you consider the directions of your dentist.
